Smoke!

The Dismal Swamp is burning. (Is that not the best name ever for a swamp? Very Princess Bride) Now in Texas when the Mexican wildfires would makke there way up it would look like it was going to rain for a few days and our cars would get ash all over them. We might smell wood fire. Not so here. The Swamp is one state over but it smells like the neighbors are burning trash. It looks like we have fog on a perfectly sunny day. If it is this bad here I wonder what it is like near the swamp? It can't be good - it has been burning for a couple of weeks now.

TGIF!! I get paid today for the first time. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!

Small towns are nice.

Today a few things happened that let me know that I am no longer in suburbia. When I was taking a deposit to the bank and running a couple of things to the post office I ran into Tommy. He jumped in for the ride and altho we had to go cleat to the other side of town and back we never got above 35 and it only took about 8 minutes. On the way back we nearly ran over our waiter from a week ago who served us the best scallops we have eaten yet.

New Ideas

We are considering Tommy staying unemployed, sort of. Just handymaning it and selling stuff on eBay. This would really work for me because then I would never have to make my sandwiches. He is thinking of getting some cars printed saying "Let Me Help"

We looked a house for sale today but it was no bueno. No trees!!

We are off to dinner at Mom and Pat's. It is one of Pat's birthdays -she gets two - because she says so.

New job

So far so good. It has been two days and I like the people, the work, the hours and the location. I now work one block from the mainstreet of a quaint downtown. a thriving downtown with multiple restaurants, a bookstore gourmet food stores and art gallerys. Some day soon i may actually take my lunch time to go check it out. But even the knowledge that I can if I want to makes me happy.

Tommy is still looking. This area doesn't know what they are missing. Somebody needs to snap him up.

In the meantime I am so enjoying the house-husband. And Cass is loving her stay at home dad. Especially now. We had to put her back on steroids. She has been having terrible skin allergies that were making her miserable. Now she feels better but has to pee all the time.

Boo? Boo is a cat she does not concern herself with human affairs unless she is hungry or has a scratch she can't reach. Actually I am missing the little punk. She has stopped sleeping with us and now sleeps on the old towel we use as a bath mat (cause we knows how to decorate!). That's right forsaken for a towel an old towel - oh the shame.

Things you can do in VA and not TX

Go barefoot in the yard! No red ants. Alas, however also no skirt steak. That is just weird.

Even Divier Diveness

We went back to The Dive. Mom and Pat wanted to take Tommy for a belated birthday dinner and I was allowed to come along since we are married and stuff. He choose it because he cannot get enough of the bisque.

Favorite Diveness? After I petted the resident dog on my way to the restroom, said dog got up from the bar floor and trotted ahead of me to the restroom to get a drink - out of the toilet. I am telling you this is a true sign of a classy joint. I love love love it.

More CORN!!

Tom Smiles

I was asking Tommy why he never smiles in his pictures. He promised he would and he delivered. He is one wild and crazy guy.

Don't you just hate it when...

You stop to render aid to someone after they have flipped their car. After your husband helps to pry open the (smoking) car door, you help same person up and out of the ditch then to a prone position, you realize you both have blood all over you and you DIDN'T pack the wet naps.

Me too.

Pat's Cherry Tree

This is Pat's Cherry Tree. As you can see it is MUCH prettier than Mom's - Just as sour tho.

Dinner Party

Mom and Pat came to dinner last night for the first time since we have been here. Mom even drove! She is really on the mend now, in fact she has asked that we dogsit in July so she and Pat can go to Atlantic City. Boy that was tough to agree to - 200+ channels of TV, central air, water view. Hell Yes.

Dinner went well, except maybe we should save the items with an hour of baking time for a non heatwave. It was H O T in the kitchen. We had oven baked cornflake chicken (shake and bake and I helped!), garlic mashed taters, fresh green beans and for desert; watermelon, cantaloupe and grapes with redi-whip.

Today I have yet to get dressed (jealous much?) and have been knitting up a storm. I posted a bunch of stuff to sell on Ebay. Wish us luck there please.

Did I mention the Bisque?

This is where we ate on Saturday. Tommy wanted to make sure to take a picture of the boats so Cap'n Dan could see them. The place has a name but it was once voted one of the best dives on the East Coast and therefore around here it is called The Dive. I knew I would like it when I saw that there was a giant dog laying on the floor as you walked in. Health code shmelf code - I love dogs and I am completely used to eating in the same room and occasionally off the same plate as them. Did I mention the Bisque?

Big news!!

Today was the last day at my job.

Don't feel too bad for me because about noon I got a call from the accounting firm. and BAM! I am employeed again. The best part? I don't start until the 16th. A week off and I don't have to look for a job. I am the luckiest girl in the whole wide ... house...(don't wanna jinx myself). Decent pay, Decent hours. 100% insurance!!!!

We are having Chef Boyardee Pizza tonight to celebrate. Then we might watch some corn grow.

Speaking of p -um- Corn we watched Swingtown last night. I am so happy to see Jake from Melrose back. And he didn't even have to punch anyone. The clothes are killing me. The are so on target.

Stupid question asked at our house

If I go get some beer will you drink some?

Tommy likes corn

He likes it so much that I came home the other day and he had turned the lawn chairs around to be able to watch the corn grow. Yep that is what we do in the country we watch corn grow. He is hoping we stay in this house long enough to fufull his life long dream of running through the corn field children of the Corn style. That and also (please don't tell the farmer) Tommy has already planned a theft of a cob or two. I have explained that this is feed corn for livestock but he cares not. He says it is just higher in starch and he likes starch almost as much as corn.

We could be happy in the country.

What's that you ask? O, just the gorgeous sunset over the cornfield in our back yard.

Satanic bread?

We made more bread. And if you have ever seen The Omen you know what is going to happen to the loaf on the right. Who needs to buy a rack to put the bread on? No one with too much green tea and some Kebab skewers that's who.
