Updating

It might snow today.  We spent last week housesitting while Mom and Pat went to Florida.  It was very nice to be in a warm place with more than 3 channels of tv.  While we were gone the pipes burst in this house.  Poor Tommy spent his weekend crawling under the house, fixing a section, turning the water on and then finding another section burst.  Of course the local hardware store closed up for the weekend at 3pm Saturday.  We had to drive 45 minutes Sunday morning to get parts at Lowes.

I am still unemployed.  I am volunteering two days a week at the Red Cross.  I have read, and knitted alot and gotten caught up on Smodcasts.    Tommy got me a 2nd gen shuffle for Christmas and I have found that doing my chores is much easier with a podcast playing.  Much Much easier.  Yeah technology.

I took advantage of unlimited long distance at the warm house to call Lea and watch the inaugration.  Thank God change has come.

Our attic is scary

This is the view down the stairs from the attic. It gives me vertigo to look at it. the walls are this dull powdery paint that just screams horror movie to me. This is probably the second time I have ever gone upstairs. Tommy went up and insulated the area over the kitchen this morning and I sat at the top of the stairs as moral support. Which actually took a lot of nerve.

Aylett's Drive Inn

Today we had to go almost to Richmond.  We went to the suburbs of Richmond to get the dog food we feed Cassie.  Because dammit she is old and she deserves the good stuff that we can't buy at Wally World.  We drove to one of those shopping centers that has Everything.  Target, Kohls, a warehouse store, Home Depot etc etc.  We walked into Petsmart bought the food, petted the shelter pups outside and got the hell outta Dodge.

Tom has been going gaga over Taco Bell ads lately but Taco bell would have meant staying in the CITY for at least 10 more minutes.  And Tom does not like the city.  Not at all.  So we headed back toward home and remembering a dive-ish looking place we had seen on the way in with a sign that read Hamburgers AND hot dogs we had a new lunch destination.  This place was Aylett's Drive Inn.  They had Bologna on the menu (twice).  Along with the regular sides such as mashed potatoes and green beans, they had deviled eggs (which were yummy). Tommy had a hamburger steak with grilled onions.  I had fried shrimp and fries (seafood is a healthy choice right?)  I am pretty sure his mashed taters were from scratch.  It was awesome.  Roadside greasy spoon food rocks.

Happy New .....

2008 is over and good riddance if you ask me.  Tommy and I are in a funk so there is very little of your average turning over a new leaf happy bright and shiney new year crap.  We brought the bah humbug right through to the new year.  Another house deal seems to have fallen through.  I am actually fully unemplyed now.  And it is cold here.  I may have torename this blog to the Woe is me moving adventure soon.

In the other hand there was this:

That is not dandruff that is snow.
